Jaisalmer Desert Festival 2019


Jaisalmer Desert Festival held every year in the month of January-February in the golden city of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer. According to the Hindu calendar, the event is celebrated in the Magh month which is three days prior to the full moon. The Thar Desert welcomes large number of tourists every year to witness the 3-day extravaganza of desert festival amidst the sand dunes. Celebrations

  • The festival begins with the procession from the Jaisalmer Fort in the morning and ends at Shahid Poonam Singh Stadium. One can witness the locals wearing traditional attire, singing and dancing. Gair and fire dance is performed to attract the visitors.
  • Competitions like camel polo, camel race, gymnast acts on back of camel, tug of war, Mr. desert, the longest moustache and turban tying are organized.  On the last day of the festival, Air force display, Rajasthan folk dances and parachuting are performed.
  • There are various food stalls where delicious and traditional food of Rajasthan is available. For shopaholics, there are stalls selling handicraft items, camel leather products, artefacts and souvenirs can be bought.
  • To enhance your experience, you can also book your stay at the Jaisalmer desert camp. But make sure, you book a stay in advance, since the camps get full due to the over-crowd.
  • Desert safari Jaisalmer is a must do activity for every visitor. Without enjoying the camel/jeep safari, your trip would be incomplete. On the back of camel, you can explore the dunes deeply and in fact catch the splendid sunset which looks stunning.

How to Reach Jaisalmer?

By Air: There is a direct flight from Delhi and Mumbai to Jaisalmer. But if you don’t get direct flight then you can board a flight to Jodhpur Airport and from there you can rent car Jaisalmer to reach Jaisalmer hassle-free.

By Train: Jaisalmer is well-connected with the rail network. Trains are easily available from major destinations.

By Road: Roads are well-connected with national highways and state highways. This is also a better option.
