The Golden city and its Famous Desert Safari

The beautiful vibrant city of Jaisalmer is also known as the golden city for its distinguished yellow sandstone architecture. This little desert city in the princely state of Rajasthan in the Indian subcontinent was founded in 1156AD, and is named after its ruler, Raja Rawal Jaisal, a Bhatti Rajput ruler and literally means the hill fort of Jaisal. Thw small town, like many in Rajasthan, is immersed in history and culture going back centuries. Jaisalmer draws most of its history from that of the Rajputana. If the legend is believed, Raja Rawal Jaisal founded the town as the behest of a local hermit. The town lies in the southern part of the Thar Desert.

Jaisalmer Sightseeing
The city runs high on tourism and you can find many Jaisalmer tour packages which should include Jaisalmer sightseeing and camel safari in the desert. Talking about a few of those historical attractions that usually draw the most tourists, the first one has to be the Jaisalmer Fort, also known as the Sonar Quila which translates to Golden Fort. The Golden Fort of the city of Jaisalmer is one of the very rare living forts in the world that still stand intact with more than one fourth of the city population still residing inside it. The fort is made of yellow sandstone which stands massive and tall during the day and camouflages itself with the desert as the night falls. Another beautiful ancient and historic place to visit is the Lodhruva village near Jaisalmer. Lodhruva is said to be the ancient capital of the Bhatti dynasty that is until Raja Rawal Jaisal shifted it to Jaisalmer. Surrounded by the sand dunes, one can visit the ruins that stand proudly singing the sagas of the times they have seen. Another destination on your list can be Patwon ki Haveli which has now been turned into a museum displaying the beautiful artwork and intricate carvings of its time.

Jaisalmer desert safari and Overnight camps
There is a lot of history that many places can offer across Rajasthan. Spend the nights looking at the endless night skies void of those sky scrapers but full of countless stars. This night stay in the Jaisalmer desert camps or the luxury camps in Jaisalmer, as per your choice is the heart and soul of the whole experience. This whole experience includes camel safari through the desert. You get to witness the picturesque sunrise and sunset and the beautiful desert all bathing in the golden hues.
